Beginner Handgun Safety

In this beginner level course, you’ll learn the basics of handguns, including important safety information, the anatomy of pistols and revolvers, how to handle handguns, and more.

You’ll take a gun apart and put it back together and you’ll learn basic care and maintenance of a gun.

By the end of this course, you’ll have the fundamental knowledge of how handguns work and how to safely handle a gun.

The structure of this course will be offered via lecture, demonstrations, and hands-on practice.

  • Loading and unloading
  • Malfunctioning and troubleshooting
  • About ammunition

Handling a Firearm

  • Safety and rules
  • Grip and stance
  • Sight alignment
  • Trigger control
  • Range protocols

Note: There will be no ammunition of any guns during this course.

There will be lots of space and time available to ask all the questions you’ve ever had in a safe, friendly environment.



About the Instructor

Max Proctor is a long-time student of Krav Maga (Level 4 practitioner, Level 1 instructor). He retired from the military after serving for 8 years in the Air Force and he now works for Texas Department of Transportation.

He’s a certified Texas License to Carry instructor and a certified NRA Basic Pistol Instructor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my own gun?

No. Please leave your own guns at home or in your vehicle.

Do I need to bring anything?

No, but feel free to bring snacks. Also feel free to bring something to take notes with.

Will we be shooting guns with live ammunition in this course?

No, there will be no live ammunition in class.
